The first Ekstraklasa match in Nieciecza in three years generated enormous interest. All tickets were sold out a few days ago.
The visitors entered the match without their top scorer, Efthymis Koulouris, who was sidelined with a back injury. The home coach was also without key striker Kamil Zapolnik, who was recovering from an injury he sustained against Jagiellonia Białystok.
The first quarter of an hour wasn't very interesting, but in the 16th minute, Jesus Jimenez found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper. The Bruk-Bet striker lobbed Krzysztof Kamiński, but Marian Huja, with a sacrificial save, cleared the ball before it crossed the goal line. But what can be delayed? The hosts then took two corner kicks in succession, and on the second occasion, after a Maciej Ambrosiewicz cross, Arkadiusz Kasperkiewicz headed the ball into the net from close range.
The visitors had a chance to equalize in the 29th minute. Jose Pozo fired in from 16 yards after receiving a pass from Kamil Grosicki. The ball brushed the leg of a Bruk-Bet defender and flew just wide of the post.
During the break, coach Robert Kolendowicz, dissatisfied with his team's performance, made three changes, and Grosicki was placed as a centre-forward.
In the 53rd minute, it should have been 2-0 to the hosts. After a superb pass from Morgan Fassbender, Ambrosiewicz found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but Krzysztof Kamiński made a brilliant save.
This woke Pogoń up. Musa Juwara fired a dangerous shot, but it was narrowly off target. Paul Mukairu then drove alone towards the Bruk-Bet goal, but the returning Kasperkiewicz blocked it at the last minute. After a corner kick and Juwara's shot from 17 meters out, the visitors celebrated an equalizer. However, the joy was short-lived, as a VAR review ruled the goal out after the ball deflected off Huja's hand before entering the net.
Pogoń gained a significant advantage. Miłosz Mleczko saved a dangerous shot from Pozo. Moments later, the score was level. Fredrik Ulvestad laid the ball off for Grosicki, who simply added a foot to it, giving Mleczko no chance.
Rafał Kurzawa had a chance to score in the 71st minute. The midfielder, who joined Bruk-Bet from Pogoń in the summer, took a shot from inside the penalty area, but Kamiński managed to clear the ball for a corner.
The final minutes were thrilling. Both teams pushed for the winning goal. Jakub Lis and Krzysztof Kubica, among others, missed several good opportunities. Overall, the match ended in a fair draw.
