Andrzej Wrona has ended his career. Tears of emotion after the last match

Andrzej Wrona has ended his career. Tears of emotion after the last match

Andrzej Wrona is currently one of the most recognizable Polish volleyball players. The middle blocker has competed at the highest level of competition in Poland for years, and has also represented our country on the international stage many times, winning, among others, the world championship. After Wednesday's match against JSW Jastrzębski Węgiel, in which PGE Projekt Warszawa won the bronze medal of the PlusLiga, Wrona ended his volleyball career.

- I feel grateful that I was able to experience all this - said the volleyball player, his voice breaking with emotion, in an interview with Bożena Pieczko.

As always professional, Wrona referred to the level of the team from Jastrzębie-Zdrój in a few words. He admitted that it is one of the best clubs in Europe.

- This team has character. Before the match we said that in this match we would probably see the best version of Jastrzębski Węgiel from these play-offs against us - and that's what happened. They set us difficult conditions, and we still won against one of the best teams in Europe. That's why this medal tastes special. Of course, we dreamed of playing this match at 8:30 p.m. (PlusLiga final - editor's note), but life painfully verified it. Today we showed that again - just like in the matches with Zawiercie - the match was slipping away from us in the end, but we didn't give up. We won and grabbed this bronze medal. Big applause for our entire team for that - he assessed.

On Wednesday, another player from the capital team also ended his career. Jakub Kowalczyk decided to retire from sports. Wrona honored his teammate by lifting the cup for winning third place in the 2024/2025 season together.

- Kuba played here for ten years, I for nine. We played together practically since the first season and Kuba is also leaving and probably finishing, although life tests it in different ways. I wanted to honor him with this, because he is the heart of this team and the positive spirit of the team. Despite the fact that he was not on the pitch much, he really gave a huge value, in each of the nine seasons that I was here. I think that no matter who you ask, they cannot imagine the team without him. I wanted to honor him in this way - emphasized Wrona.

At the end of the conversation, the player born in 1988 once again, with tears in his eyes, thanked the fans for their support throughout his volleyball career.

- I think we don't have that much time and currently I'm not able to emotionally say everything I feel and what happened to me from the fans over these 18 or even 25 years. I'll just say thank you and it was a pleasure to play even against everyone away in loud halls in Poland. Thank you and I hope to see you soon - Wrona concluded.
