A tear-jerker's goal against the Czech Republic's leaders
Baník Sokolov, with Krężołek in the lineup, played today's Round 19 match against league leaders Slavia Prague. There were no surprises. The capital city's dominant team won 5-1, extending their lead over the second-place team to a whopping 10 points, but Krężołek scored his own goal for the visitors.
However, it was only a consolation goal, as the Polish striker reduced the deficit in the 58th minute, while on the power play, with a shot from the faceoff circle. Captain Jan Holý recorded a goal and two assists for Slavia, with Jan Knotek, Daniel Kružík, Jiří Průžek, and Tomáš Trunda also contributing. The shot ruined Vojtěch Mokrý's chance for a clean sheet, but the Slavia goalkeeper saved the remaining 27 shots from the visitors.
The Polish striker was part of Baník's second attack. He made 19 substitutions and was on the ice for a total of 16 minutes and 22 seconds. He had three shots on goal and had one blocked. He finished the game with a +/- score of -1. After 18 appearances this season, he has four goals and nine assists. He has scored four points in his first 12 Czech league games and nine in his last six.
His team is 12th in the 14-team league. After a series of three away games, the "Górnicy" now return to their home arena, where they will play two more matches on Saturday and Sunday. Their next opponent will be Dukla Igława.
