A Polish woman's record-breaking throw at the World Championships sent commentators into a frenzy.

A Polish woman's record-breaking throw at the World Championships sent commentators into a frenzy.

Małgorzata Maślak-Glugla is a javelin thrower and on Friday, early afternoon Polish time, she competed in the qualifying group for a place in the final of the Athletics World Championships.

The Pole succeeded, and what's more, Maślak-Glugla improved her career best result. The Pole threw the javelin 61.79 meters, placing her fourth in her qualifying group. Przemysław Babiarz and Sebastian Chmara, commentators for the Polish Television, shouted with joy.

"I thought it would be worse. I had already dealt with the stress of the day and it felt good. I saved some for the final. I came here happy to be here. I didn't expect to win against Kitaguchi and achieve a personal best," the javelin thrower told TVP Sport.

It's worth noting that Maślak-Glugla isn't the best Polish javelin thrower, at least not theoretically. Maria Andrejczyk's performance is cause for great anticipation. The Polish athlete finished runner-up at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Now, the Pole returns to the venue and will compete on Friday in the second qualifying group.

There is therefore a good chance for two Polish javelin throwers in the 2025 World Championship final.

World Championships: The Polish team is still medalless in Tokyo. Will there be a breakthrough?

In the Japanese capital, the Polish national team is still waiting for its first medal in track and field competition. There have already been several successful performances. Hurdler Pia Skrzyszowska achieved fifth place in the world. Natalia Bukowiecka, the only Polish track and field medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics, finished fourth in the 400-meter race.

The Polish hammer throwers put in a solid performance. Among the hammer throwers, Anita Włodarczyk, a great champion, finished near the top, finishing sixth. Paweł Fajdek finished lower in the final. The mixed 4x400m relay team also had a close performance. Poland ultimately finished fourth, missing out on a medal by 0.09 seconds.
