After falling 2-0 to North Korea in their debut, the Mexican national team finally found the winning formula in the U-17 Women's World Cup, where they defeated the Netherlands 1-0 to earn their first three points.
With a stunning goal from Citlali Reyes in the 87th minute, Miguel Gamero's team redeemed themselves in Morocco, getting their tournament run back on track and winning again in the Women's Cup after five consecutive defeats.
Despite suffering the controversial expulsion of Vanessa Paredes in the 58th minute, Mexico showed balance and defensive order to keep their hopes of advancing to the next round alive.
From the opening minutes of the match, the national team players generated opportunities towards the opponent's goal. With plays down the wings and speed, they repeatedly came close to the opposing goal guarded by Maren Groothoff.
The clearest chance came in the final minutes of the first half, when Zoé Sánchez unleashed a powerful shot that rattled the Dutch defense.
Mexico constantly sought the goal, applying high pressure against their opponents. However, when it came to scoring, the forwards were erratic and inaccurate, and frustration began to take hold.
In the second half, the Mexican team modified its strategy and tried different variations, but failed to open the scoring. It wasn't until the final whistle that Reyes scored the 1-0 goal, becoming the only Mexican to score in two U-17 World Cups.
The Netherlands controlled the game for several minutes and came close to awarding a penalty in a move very similar to Paredes's expulsion; however, VAR determined that Citlalli Reyes touched the ball before making contact with Liv Pennock, thus avoiding a penalty.
In the final stretch, Mexico played smart, and although they had a couple more chances, they were unable to extend their lead against an opponent who also didn't let up. With their victory, they move into second place in Group B.
In Group A, Costa Rica surprised everyone by drawing 1-1 with Brazil. Goalkeeper Valeria Fernández was a key figure, saving a penalty in the 90th minute, allowing her team to earn a valuable point. Italy capitalized on Brazil's stumble and took the lead after beating Morocco 3-1.
Ecuador defeated Norway 2-0 in Group C, while China fell to the United States 5-2, leaving the United States at the top of the group, followed by China and Ecuador with three points each. Norway remains without a point.
The FIFA U-17 World Cup brings together 16 teams vying for the overall title. The group stage will conclude in the coming days, giving way to the quarterfinals.

Paris. Reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain, runners-up Inter Milan, and contenders Arsenal and Barcelona all reassured themselves of their UEFA Champions League hopes with wins by at least four goals in the most effective matchdays in that category for the teams.
PSG hammered Bayer Leverkusen 7-2 in Germany, but it wasn't the biggest result of the European night. The same power was on display at Montjuic, where Barça crushed Olympiakos of Greece 6-1, who were reduced to a man after the expulsion of Argentine Santiago Hezze.
In London, Arsenal defeated Atlético Madrid 4-0, the same result Inter achieved in defeating the modest Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise. Another team that punished an unrecognizable Napoli team with a set-length victory, like in a tennis match, was PSV (6-2).
Dutch police arrested 230 fans of the Italian club and four PSV fans in Eindhoven for fear of clashes before the game. According to official reports, Neapolitan supporters displayed "provocative behavior" at various points in the city.
The detainees were taken to the police station for questioning and later released, although they received a fine.
In the sporting arena, English football closed out Tuesday's fixture with three wins for its three competing teams. Newcastle beat Benfica 3-0 with a clean sheet, while Manchester City defeated Villarreal 2-0.
In Leverkusen, Ecuadorian centre-back Willian Pacho (7), Desiré Doué (41 and 45+3), Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (44), Nuno Mendes (50), Ousmane Dembélé (66), who had just entered the field of play, and Vitinha (90) scored the goals for PSG, a team that had already beaten Atalanta and FC Barcelona in the first two matches.
The Parisian side provisionally leads the group with nine points, the same as Inter Milan and Arsenal, while Leverkusen remains in 26th place with two draws and one defeat. "We want to win everything again this season. We have the confidence from last year. Our objective is real and authentic," declared Luis Enrique, coach of the European champions.
Like PSG, Barcelona regained some positive momentum after losing at home in early October. Fermín López became the first Spanish player to score three goals in a Champions League match for the Catalan side, which currently sits ninth with six points.
Premier League leaders Arsenal dispatched Atlético Madrid with four goals in just 15 minutes. Brazilians Gabriel (57) and Gabriel Martinelli (64) put the game in the Gunners' favor. And within three minutes (67 and 70), Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres netted a brace from the six-yard box.
Meanwhile, the Spanish League canceled plans for Barcelona to play a regular-season match against Villarreal in Miami in December, a decision that was rushed after mounting national opposition.
According to LaLiga, the decision was made after talks with the promoter of the match scheduled for December 20 and in light of "the uncertainty generated in Spain."

With a last-minute goal from Ramón Juárez in the 90+8 minute, the Águilas del América defeated Puebla 2-1 and thus regained second place in the Liga MX standings.
In a match corresponding to Matchday 14 of the 2025 Apertura, André Jardine's team earned three important points for their aspirations, although their performance fell far short of what fans expected.
With a precise left-footed shot from outside the area, Uruguayan Emiliano Gómez beat Luis Malagón to put Puebla ahead 1-0 in the 52nd minute.
The goal set off alarm bells on the American bench, and in the 67th minute, Bryan Rodríguez scored a controversial penalty to tie the game for the capital team.
Just when it seemed like a tie between La Franja and the Águilas was sealed, Ramón Juárez rose above the mark and connected with an unstoppable header that sealed the final 2-1 scoreline at the Ciudad de los Deportes stadium.
Coapa came into the match looking to recover from their defeat in the youth derby last Saturday. Puebla, meanwhile, was looking for its second consecutive win after coming from behind against Atlas to win 4-3.
The Coapa team's next match will be against Mazatlán on Friday, while La Franja will face the Juárez Bravos at the Benito Juárez Olympic Stadium.
At the Estadio Victoria in Aguascalientes, Cruz Azul and Necaxa tied 1-1 in a match where La Máquina had two goals disallowed.
The visitors scored their first goal in the 65th minute. Carlos Rotondi broke down the left and sent a low cross to Amaury Morales, who controlled it and scored for the sky-blues.
In the 87th minute, Agustín Palavecino picked up a loose ball and nailed it into the top right corner to tie the game for Necaxa.
In the final minutes, Cruz Azul scored another goal, but the video refereeing system ruled it was offside, nullifying the visitors' celebration.
Following this result, the team coached by Nicolás Larcamón dropped to third place in the table with 29 points, one less than the Águilas del América.
The Celestes will return home this Saturday to face Rayados, while Necaxa will visit Atlético de San Luis.
In other results, Santos and Mazatlán drew 2-2 at El Encanto Stadium. Roberto Meraz (10th minute) and Facundo Almada (90+2) scored for the Cañoneros; Aldo López (57th) and Kevin Palacios (76th) scored for Santos.
At the Steel Giant, Monterrey thrashed Juárez 4-2, taking their total to 30 points.

Oklahoma. Thunder fans got everything they wanted on Tuesday: a ring ceremony, the unveiling of the championship banner, and a win over the Houston Rockets and former Oklahoma City star Kevin Durant.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the reigning Player of the Year, sank two free throws with 2.3 seconds left in the second overtime to give the Thunder a 125-124 win. Last season's scoring champion had just five points at halftime but finished with 35.
Durant fouled Gilgeous-Alexander with the Rockets leading 124-123 in the second overtime, and the crowd cheered wildly when he exited the game with his sixth personal foul. Gilgeous-Alexander sank both free throws for the decisive points. Houston's Jabari Smith Jr. missed a 19-footer as time expired, and the Thunder survived in the opening game.
