Speed returns: Gravity Race Car takes to the mountains of Coahuila this May 17 and 18

The sound of tires sliding on the asphalt, shouts of support, and metal structures hurtling down a natural slope will once again be part of the landscape in the community of Mesa de las Tablas , in the municipality of Arteaga, Coahuila . This May 17 and 18, a new edition of the Gravity Race Car will be held, a national competition for non-motorized vehicles that has established itself as a distinct proposition within Mexican motorsports.

Unlike traditional circuits, there are no roaring engines or burning fuel here. What's put to the test are the laws of physics, design talent, and the drivers' ability to control their vehicles downhill, propelled solely by gravity.

The competition brings together teams from different parts of the country, made up of students, engineers, enthusiasts, and automotive design experts. Each team brings a car built from scratch, which must pass technical inspections and safety tests before entering the downhill circuit.

The vehicles don't use any type of propulsion, which requires innovative solutions in terms of aerodynamics, weight, balance, and strength. Despite this limitation, or perhaps thanks to it, the cars can reach considerable speeds, turning every descent into a spectacle.

The event format includes multiple categories: from models built by beginners to prototypes approaching the semi-professional level. Races are organized in timed trials, with the fastest vehicle winning, but awards are also given for the best designs and teamwork.

The Gravity Car Race not only attracts speed enthusiasts, but also families, visitors, and tourists seeking an outdoor experience. Mesa de las Tablas , known for its temperate climate and mountainous landscapes, transforms for two days into a meeting point for technology, nature, and community.

In addition to the competitions, attendees will be able to enjoy a series of parallel activities, including a gastronomic area with regional dishes, a camping area, technical exhibitions, and live music. All of this is free of charge, making it easy for those looking to spend a unique weekend, whether out of interest in the sport or simply for the pleasure of spending time in a natural setting.

This national event brings together teams from all over Mexico to compete in non-powered cars designed to descend at high speeds.

The event is organized by a group of sustainable motorsports promoters, with support from local authorities and educational institutions in the region. Beyond the spectacle, one of the main objectives is to foster the development of young talent in areas such as engineering, industrial design, and mechanics, all in a practical and competitive environment.

The 2025 edition is expected to surpass previous years in participation and attendance. This would not only mean greater visibility for the event, but also economic and tourism benefits for the Mesa de las Tablas community and the municipality of Arteaga .

In times when sustainability is a priority, this competition demonstrates that a passion for speed can coexist with respect for the environment. Without gasoline or engine noise, but with a wealth of excitement, technical precision, and teamwork.

The Mesa de las Tablas community in Arteaga, Coahuila, will host the Gravity Race Car competition on May 17 and 18, 2025.
