Shedeur Sanders selected by the Browns in the fifth round of the 2025 Draft after an unexpected delay

The Cleveland Browns ended their wait for Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft on Saturday. by selecting him with the 144th overall pick, in the fifth round.

The 23-year-old, 6-foot-1, 212-pound Sanders did not participate in the combine physicals, though he did throw during Pro Day in Colorado , where about 80 NFL representatives, including coaches, scouts and executives, were present.
Sanders 's story caught the attention of the team, as he was still without a team after more than 100 selections. Before the start of the fourth round, he posted a message on social media: "Another day, another chance to get a chance to play the game I love. Thank you, GOD."
The son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, who is also the head coach of Colorado , Shedeur entered the draft under intense media pressure. Even President Donald Trump weighed in, criticizing team owners for not selecting him earlier.
“What’s wrong with the NFL owners? Are they stupid? Shedeur has phenomenal genes and is poised for greatness. He should be drafted immediately by a team that wants to win,” Trump wrote on his X account.
