Rayados are out of the Club World Cup after losing to Borussia Dortmund.

Rayados de Monterrey were eliminated from the 2025 Club World Cup after losing 2-1 to Borussia Dortmund in the Round of 16. The match, played at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta , marked the end of Rayados ' international campaign, as they failed to complete a comeback against the German side.
From the start, the Monterrey team showed attacking intent and looked to compete in midfield. However, Dortmund capitalized on their first big opportunity in the 13th minute. A one-two punch between Karim Adeyemi and Serhou Guirassy broke the Mexican defense, and the French-Guinean striker finished with a cross shot to open the scoring past Esteban Andrada .
Jesús “Tecatito” Corona had a clear chance shortly after. He faced Swiss goalkeeper Gregor Kobel , who managed to deflect the shot. The play was later ruled out for offside, although it made it clear Monterrey was looking for an equalizer.

The Germans' offensive pressure paid off again in the 24th minute. Adeyemi again appeared as an assist and set up Guirassy , who scored his second goal of the night to extend Borussia Dortmund 's lead. Rayados tried to respond with a powerful shot from Johan Deossa that was deflected by the opposing goalkeeper, but the Mexican team went into the break two goals down.
Just after the second half began, in the 48th minute, Germán Berterame headed in a move down the wing that revived the Albiazules' hopes. Monterrey pressed for an equalizer, and Tecatito again created danger in the box, in a controversial move in which he was shoved in the back by Niklas Süle. Despite protests, Argentine referee Facundo Tello did not award a penalty.
With the score still in their favor, coach Niko Kovac made adjustments to his lineup to stem Monterrey 's offensive momentum. The changes paid off, and although Rayados remained in the opponent's half, their scoring opportunities diminished.
In the final minutes, Sergio Ramos had the final say for the Mexicans with a header that flew just wide of the top corner, but it wasn't enough to level the score. The final whistle confirmed Borussia Dortmund 's victory and their passage to the quarterfinals, where they will face Real Madrid .
Monterrey bids farewell to the competition with a competitive performance against one of the tournament favorites. The elimination represents a step back for its international aspirations, although the team showed resilience and moments of strong play throughout the match.
