MLB: Yankees may be planning to keep JC Escarra

Fans of the Cibaeñas Eagles will hardly forget Cuban-American catcher JC Escarra, as he was one of the main offensive gunners who lifted the team to qualify for the last round robin, after a disastrous start.
Escarra, 30, continues to confirm the great moment he is in and is making the most of the invitation that the New York Yankees have extended to him to their training camp in Tampa, Florida.
Although the Bronx Mules have Austin Wells at catcher, Escarra (who also bats left-handed) is beginning to be seen as a good candidate to at least fill the backup role at position two, which would finally allow him to debut in the Major Leagues.
The last batting champion of the Dominican winter tournament with .366, was drafted by the Mets in the 2013 amateur draft, began playing in the MLB minor league circuit the following year, and in 2024 before playing in the Dominican Republic, he had participated in a total of 124 games (at the Yankees' Double A and Triple A levels), and hit .261 with 111 hits in 426 at-bats, 32 doubles, three triples, and twelve home runs.
After ten years of playing in the minor leagues, JC Escarra is still looking for the opportunity to debut in the Major Leagues.
The Yankees' defensive metrics keep Escarra as a very efficient defender, which gives him the necessary advantage to most likely land the backup catcher spot on the 2025 Opening Day roster.
