American Hulk Hogan, a professional wrestling legend turned pop culture star, died yesterday at the age of 71.
Hogan, whose real name was Terry Bollea, was pronounced dead at a Florida hospital after emergency personnel responded to a call for cardiac arrest at his home in Clearwater, near Tampa, local police said.
A member of the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Hall of Fame since 2005, the main wrestling league in the United States, Hogan, known for his imposing physique, as well as for his characteristic bandana tied around his head and his blond mustache, had his peak in the 1980s, since he not only appeared in the ring, but also in films, television programs, video games and various advertising campaigns.
In Mexico, he is remembered for his two visits to the legendary, now-defunct Toreo de Cuatro Caminos. The first occurred on July 31, 1983, when he participated in a tag team match in which, alongside Japanese wrestler Gran Hamada, he defeated the duo of Canek and Perro Aguayo.
Almost a year later, on September 2, 1984, he returned to the same venue to face Canek, then the reigning UWA champion, in a bloody battle. In this epic bout, Hogan, putting his World Wrestling Federation (WWF) title on the line, won the first fall, while the Mexican emerged victorious in the second. The winner would be decided in the third and final round, where both were disqualified for failing to enter the ring before the referee finished the count, resulting in a draw. The American retained his belt, and the Tabasco native was recognized as one of the few wrestlers who prevented him from taking the victory.
Condolences
After learning of his death, the man also known as Prince Maya posted an emotional message on social media: "It is with profound sadness that I received the news of the passing of Hulk Hogan, a wrestling partner and rival. May he rest in peace. I join in the mourning of your family. May God give you strength in this difficult time."
Brother, may God bless you. Thank you for sharing this life with us. We'll see each other again up there, in the ring of heaven. Thank you for everything you gave to wrestling and for everything you gave to me.
Meanwhile, renowned Mexican wrestler Mil Máscaras dedicated a few words to him: Hulk Hogan, your legacy in wrestling is immortal. Thank you for your dedication, your commanding presence, and for taking this sport to new heights. Farewell
.
WWE mourned his passing, describing him as one of the most recognizable figures in pop culture who helped us achieve global recognition. We extend our condolences to his family, friends, and fans
.
In addition to being known for his spectacular fights, Hogan also gained fame by generating controversy, first when an intimate video of him was leaked, and again when a recording resurfaced in 2015 containing racist comments, in which he even insulted African Americans.
He also made headlines in recent years for his fervent support of President Donald Trump.
Hogan's skills, who suffered numerous health problems in his later years due to in-ring injuries, and his magnetic personality as an American hero, transformed wrestling in his country into family entertainment and turned the league into a multi-million dollar empire.

Col De La Loze., Australian Ben O'Connor (Jayco AlUla) won yesterday alone in one of the queen stages of the Tour de France (18), with arrival at the port of La Loze.
In the fight for the overall standings, yellow jersey Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) emerged unscathed, and even strengthened, from the maneuvers of Jonas Vingegaard (Visma), his closest pursuer, who is running out of time and miles for an increasingly unlikely comeback.
“I would have loved to win, but the most important thing today was the yellow jersey ,” said the 26-year-old Slovenian, who admitted that he is counting the kilometers until Paris
, where he could win his fourth Tour .
The team did well and we had a good plan, but I couldn't take time away from Tadej
, Vingegaard lamented.
Colombian Einer Rubio (Movistar) was overtaken a few meters from the finish by Pogacar (second at the finish line), who extended his lead at the top of the standings.
After isolating Pogi on the Col de la Madeleine – the second special category climb of the day – Vingegaard was powerless to capitalize on his numerical advantage, and saw several of the Slovenian's UAE teammates, including Ecuadorian Jhonatan Narváez, make contact with the main group.
Finally, Pogacar accelerated to gain nine seconds on the Dane at the finish line, leading him by four minutes and 26 seconds in the overall standings.
In a lively and tactically charged queen stage, with multiple twists and turns, the Visma team constantly challenged Pogacar, going on the offensive from the Madeleine, more than 70 kilometers from the finish. Using several relays from his teammates, Vingegaard tried to outpace the Slovenian, but the latter, playing a defensive role, stuck to his wheel at all times.
In the end, nothing much happened on the long and winding climb to the Col de la Loze. Red Bull-Bora's German Florian Lipowitz struggled to hold on to his third place overall, where he is trailed by Britain's Oscar Onley (Picnic) by 22 seconds.
O'Connor, a 29-year-old climber, achieved his second Tour victory after also raising his arms in Tignes in 2021.
“The Tour de France is such a tough race, the greatest in the world, but also the cruelest. I couldn't be more proud to win the queen stage. I've been waiting for this for several years,” O'Connor declared amidst dense fog that darkened an otherwise sunny day.
The Australian wasn't a threat in the standings, where he was in 12th place, more than 30 minutes behind the yellow jersey at the start. After this victory, he moved up to tenth.
Today's stage (19) was shortened and will not pass through the Col des Saisies due to an outbreak of lumpy skin disease detected in a herd of cows.
Meanwhile, Ineos-Grenadiers masseur David Rozman has withdrawn from the Tour following media reports linking him to discredited German doctor Mark Schmidt, the leader of an international doping network.
Rozman has stepped down from his race duties
, Ineos-Grenadiers said in a statement provided to The Associated Press.
The team added that Rozman had received a request from the International Testing Agency (ITA) to attend an interview. This follows press reports that Rozman exchanged incriminating text messages with Schmidt dating back to June 2012.

Toluca extended its unbeaten streak and took the lead in the 2025 Apertura tournament of the Liga MX Femenil after beating Xolas 3-1 in a matchday three match yesterday at Caliente Stadium in Tijuana.
Thanks to this result, the Mexican team, which has two wins and a draw, accumulated seven points and temporarily placed itself at the top of the overall standings, while the border team, which has not been able to win in the current tournament, remained in 15th place, with just one point.
The Scarlets took the lead in the 30th minute when Frenchwoman Eugénie Le Sommer took advantage of an assist in the box to shoot straight into the goal protected by Fedra Cota and make it 1-0.
The European forward herself extended the Red Devils' lead (2-0) at the start of the second half. In the 50th minute, she surprised everyone with a powerful right-footed shot to score her second goal, making it three goals in the competition.
Despite the second goal against them, the Xolas did not give up and managed to reduce the deficit in the 59th minute through Danielle Fuentes, who, after receiving a delayed pass, dared to shoot from long distance to beat the American goalkeeper Kayla Thompson and make it 2-1.
When it seemed the scoreboard would not move any further, at 90+2, the scarlet Betzy Cuevas unleashed a shot inside the area to seal the final 3-1.
Previously, in the opening match of the day, held at the Jalisco stadium, Atlas achieved its first victory in the competition after defeating Puebla 2-0 with goals from Brenda Cerén (79) and Renata Huerta (90).
With this victory, the red and black team rose to seventh place in the table, with four points, while the La Franja team remained in last place (18), without points.
