Club World Cup: The heavy fines River Plate and Boca Juniors will have to pay to FIFA.

River and Boca not only returned earlier than they expected from the Club World Cup, but in recent hours, they have received severe financial sanctions from FIFA . These sanctions are due to unsportsmanlike conduct by their players, namely, a combination of yellow and red cards.

Despite having played only three matches, both Millonario and Xeneize were the teams with the most cautions and red cards. In fact, between them, they collected half of the red cards in the entire group stage (5 out of 10).

River Plate is the team that will owe the most to FIFA for group stage fines. The figure exceeds $200,000 . Marcelo Gallardo's team received 11 yellow cards, which translate to $137,500 (USD 12,500 each), and three red cards, equivalent to $62,540.

The red cards sent off for double yellow cards for Kevin Castaño (against Monterrey) and Gonzalo Montiel (against Inter) cost the club USD 37,540, or 18,770 for each. Added to that figure is Lucas Martinez Quarta's straight red card in the match against the Italians (an additional USD 25,000).

For its part, Boca Juniors will have to pay USD 112,500. The breakdown shows USD 62,500 for the five warnings received and USD 50,000 for the two red cards, which are divided into USD 25,000 each.
