Wimbledon, Sinner in the quarters, Dimitrov retires

Jannik reaches the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. The Italian world number 1 qualifies, thanks to the withdrawal of his opponent Grigor Dimitrov. The Bulgarian had to raise the white flag during the third set while he was ahead 6-3, 7-5, 2-2. The number 19 of the London seeding suffered a problem with his right pectoral and after the doctor's intervention he decided almost in tears, after a great match, to retire in his fifth consecutive Slam. Sinner was in difficulty throughout the match and was down by two sets having also suffered a problem with his elbow at the beginning of the match. The Italian qualifies for the quarterfinals where he will challenge the American Ben Shelton, executioner of Lorenzo Sonego.

"I don't know what to say, he's an incredible player and it's a shame to win like this. He's been unlucky lately, he's a good friend and we know each other well. He would have deserved to play the next round, if he could have. I don't feel like a winner today, it's a sad moment for all of us who saw what happened. These injuries are terrible, I know how much he cares about this sport, it's not the ending I would have wanted and I wish him the best". This was said by Jannik Sinner after progressing to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon due to Grigor Dimitrov's retirement due to injury while the Bulgarian was ahead 2 sets to nil against the Italian.

"I don't take this as a win at all."
