Historic Jannik Sinner: the world No. 1 tennis player is the first Italian to win the Wimbledon tournament. In the final, he defeated Carlos Alcaraz, No. 2, in four sets with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

By winning the 138th edition of Wimbledon, Sinner redeemed himself from the disappointment of Roland Garros and took revenge on defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the final act of the "Championships," the third Grand Slam event of the season, held on the grass courts of the All England Club in London. The scoreline was 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, in favor of the South Tyrolean, who won his first Wimbledon title and became the first Italian in history to triumph at the British Major. After five consecutive defeats, Sinner defeated Alcaraz again after almost two years (he last defeated the Spaniard at the ATP 500 in Beijing in 2023) and won the fourth Grand Slam title of his career, the third in his last five Majors. He already has two Australian Open titles (2024 and 2025) and one US Open title (last year's).

The 23-year-old from San Candido extends his lead over Alcaraz at the top of the world rankings, rising to 12,030 points, a 3,430-point advantage over the Spaniard. The 23rd player to win Wimbledon in the Open Era, Sinner confirms his position as the most successful Italian in history at the Majors, tying Nicola Pietrangeli, who is second with two wins, achieved at Roland Garros in 1959 and 1960. Now, the Italian only needs the Paris Major to achieve a Career Grand Slam. In total, he has played five Major finals, winning four of them: he has only lost in the final round in France. Alcaraz, however, is missing out on what would have been a sensational hat-trick at the "Championships," following his triumphs in 2023 and last year, but he can look forward to the coming months with optimism, where he will have the opportunity to redeem himself in the hard-court season, which last year brought him very little success. The Spaniard remains stuck with five Major titles: one at the US Open (2022), two at Wimbledon, and two at Roland Garros (2024 and this year). Today's final is the first Grand Slam final he's lost in his career. Finally, he remains ahead of Sinner in head-to-head matches.
