Perugia, another defeat: Sambenedettese wins 1-2

Perugia, another defeat: Sambenedettese wins 1-2

Perugia, September 23, 2025 – Change, to avoid change. Braglia's Perugia side was defeated by Curi. Once again, this time it was Sambenedettese who celebrated. And this time, even the fans were fed up with this embarrassing trend. Braglia made his debut with a defeat (the third in a row) and a red card after 40 minutes. Perugia changed their spirit a bit, becoming more aggressive, but what was still missing was something they weren't training for: that quality lacking in the squad that would allow them to build something from the midfield upwards and a squad worthy of the position. Perhaps with time, the coach will be able to make up for it. Grifo's two first-half chances were from set pieces, first with Angella and then with Ogunseye, while Gemello would be in danger if the Toures had been better at aiming.

In the second half, with the game flattening out, Grifo physiologically declining, and Ogunseye no longer able to cope, the coach was slow to make changes. And Samb took the lead on a penalty, drawing the right card. Giunti temporarily put them right. But a stumble in the penalty area was enough to send Samb to heaven and Grio to hell.

The match. At the start, Bacchin lost a dangerous ball (3') that allowed Nouhan Toure to fire into the side-netting. From the resulting corner, Samb played their first card for an alleged foul in the penalty area, but the referee held no comment.

Perugia made their presence felt from a set piece: Kanoute's corner kicked, Angella's header forced Orsini into a superb save (14'). In the 15th minute, the two cards were leveled, as was the decision, for a foul on Giraudo during a set piece. The right flank functioned better with Calapai and Matos, while the flow wasn't always smooth on the left, so much so that after half an hour Braglia switched the wingers. But it was Kanoute again, from a set piece, who raised hopes, but Ogunseye's header (33') was too central. Another scare came from a free kick, with Moussa Toure over-hitting a short rebound in the box by Ogunseye (36'). The match heated up due to repeated fouls by Samb, and Braglia was immediately shown a red card. The teams returned with no changes, and after an early contact on Bacchin, the bench called for a card, again to no avail. The game leveled out, with Braglia selecting Joselito (who came in behind the striker) to liven things up in place of Bacchin. In the 21st minute, Samb had their last chance: this time, it was a successful one after a Megelaitis handball, which the referee called a penalty. Sbaffo stepped up to the spot and scored. Meanwhile, Montevago came on, but the striker was Giunti, who tied the score in the 32nd minute with a fantastic goal, assisted by Matos.

Riding high on enthusiasm, Perugia thought they could do it, but instead they botched up their play in the penalty area and conceded the 2-1 goal.
