Lignano's Athletics Meeting puts on a show and sets new records.

During the weekend dedicated to athletics in Lignano, the 36th International Athletics Meeting "Sport and Solidarity" provided spectacle, drama, and entertainment for the many fans who flocked to the "Teghil" stadium. Leonardo Fabbri, reigning European champion and world silver medalist, made the cover of the event, winning the shot put with a mark of 22.13 m, setting a new meeting record. The podium was entirely Italian, rounded out by Zane Weir and Nick Ponzio. The men's 100-meter medals were also dominated by South Africans: Abduraqhmaan Karriem led the way, crossing the finish line in 10.17 seconds. Behind him were Tsebo Matsoso and the eagerly awaited Wayde van Niekerk. In the women's 100m, American Maia McCoy won in 11.16; compatriot Rayniah Jones won the 100m hurdles, while Victor Ntweng took victory in the men's 400m hurdles. Britain's Jake Wightman won the 800-meter event with a personal best of 1:44.71; Australian Bendere Oboya won the women's event with a time of 2:00.04. The 400 meters went to South African Gardeo Isaacs and American Paris Peoples, followed by Italian Virginia Troiani, while in the women's long jump, Australian Delta Amidzovski's 6.47 meters earned her first place.
As usual, there was no shortage of excitement from athletics legends, with awards presented to former hammer thrower Giampaolo Urlando, and the performances of Special Olympics athletes Shericka Jackson and Kishane Thompson in the 50 meters, prestigious testimonials of an edition that lived up to expectations.
