Leoni, what bad luck: he injured himself on his Liverpool debut, and was carried off on a stretcher in tears.

The day of his official debut in the Liverpool shirt turned out to be a bitter one for Giovanni Leoni , the 18-year-old defender who Parma sold to the Reds in the summer for 35 million .

Leoni, named in the starting XI by Arne Slot for the Carabao Cup match against Southampton, played very well, earning the crowd's applause on several occasions, but was withdrawn in the 81st minute with a serious left knee injury. After a tackle, Leoni collapsed, screaming and clutching his face in pain. Liverpool's medical staff intervened immediately, and the player was stretchered off, again to applause from Anfield. Federico Chiesa also started, providing the assists for Isak and Ekitike's goals: the final scoreline was 2-1 for the English champions.
