European Fencing Championships: Men's épée and women's sabre on the platform today

Second day of competition at the European Fencing Championships Genoa 2025. On the Ligurian Sunday there was space for the men's épée and women's sabre after the bronze won yesterday by Martina Batini in the women's foil.

Mariella Viale is the only Italian in the quarterfinals. The Italian beat the Turkish Erbil 15-7 in the eighth finals and will now face the Ukrainian Komashchuk. Chiara Mormile (15-13 by the Polish Matuszak) and Michela Battiston (15-13 by the Hungarian Katona) were eliminated in the eighth finals.

Certain Italian medal in men's épée on the second day of the European Championships currently underway in Genoa. Valerio Cuomo and Andrea Santarelli, in fact, have reached the quarterfinals and will face each other in a derby that is worth the podium.

There are three Italian fencers in the top eight: Matteo Galassi will also face the quarterfinals after beating the Czech Cupr 15-12.

In the gold medal final , Stutchbury will face Frenchwoman Lacheray, who beat Hungarian Pasztor 15-7 in the other semi-final.

" I gave it my all, I almost made it after starting badly. But I arrived really tired because of the heat, the sensations were there but I wasn't able to put in that little bit more. I'm sorry because all my opponents were within my reach", commented Batini immediately after the heat.

"Los Angeles 2028 ? I live day by day, I try to give my best and not think too far ahead," he added to RaiSport microphones.
