The assault of the Sienese Fabrizio Finetti (pictured) at the Italian Masters athletics championships begins. The competitions are scheduled from Thursday 27 February to Sunday 2 March, in Ancona , in the same facility that, these days, is hosting the Italian indoor championships. Three disciplines will see the Sienese flag bearer engaged: pentathlon, high jump and triple jump . The latter is the competition on which Finetti, holder of 8 national Master titles over the years, is counting most. "We are going for the victory - said Fabrizio Finetti on the eve of leaving for the Marche -, despite the fact that there is a lot of competition to face, especially in the high jump: even if we are talking about a Masters championship, Italy is queen in this specialty with at least 4 of the best jumpers in the world at Masters level". In total, over 2000 athletes from all over Italy take part in the Masters championships in Ancona. All over 35 years of age, as required by the regulation which, in the various disciplines, is the same as that of FIDAL (Italian Athletics Federation), with some exceptions regarding weights and distances, depending on age. Having been born in 1960, Finetti this year changes category and goes from M60 to M65. "The goal is to confirm ourselves in the triple jump even in the face of new opponents", reiterates Finetti who, in this discipline, holds the Italian Master record with a jump of 11 meters and 53 centimeters, obtained in Rieti in 2021. "I started specific training around November with Ancona in mind", said Fabrizio Finetti who, as an experienced athlete, specialist and expert, can also have a say in talking about the state of health of athletics in Siena: "A sport that all in all is doing well - he says - but which, like many other disciplines, is affected by the economic restrictions of the moment. There is a renovated facility that welcomes athletes of all ages every day. Siena is a reality that cultivates talent - he adds - despite having a smaller catchment area than others. However, there is great vitality - concludes Finetti -, also thanks to the work of trained, competent and very enthusiastic technicians in what they do".
