Jannik Sinner shows true colours with behind-the-scenes Carlos Alcaraz gesture

Jannik Sinner showed his class following his impressive Wimbledon victory over the weekend. The Italian put Carlos Alcaraz to the sword on Centre Court, securing a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win to clinch his first success at SW19.

Following his win, Sinner heaped praise on Alcaraz in his on-court interview following the comeback, but it was the 23-year-old’s behaviour behind the scenes which truly showed the sportsmanship of the four-time Grand Slam winner.

After collecting his Wimbledon and completing his media duties, Sinner then headed into the clubhouse to celebrate his success. In the facilities, the world No. 1 was spotted spending time with the Alcaraz camp and giving them plaudits on the Spaniard’s tournament.

Sinner was seen hugging Alcaraz’s family, notably his older brother Alvaro, and his agent, Albert Molina.

The nature of Sinner’s relationship with Alcaraz and his respective team will come as no surprise given how he wasted no time in congratulating the Spaniard during his interview with Annabel Croft after the win. He opened his speech by saying: “Hello everyone. First of all, I would like to start with Carlos, again, amazing tournament but mostly thank you for the player you are.

“It’s so difficult to play against you but we have, as you said, an amazing relationship off the court, and on the court we just try to build up and for doing that we need the best teams in the world and also you have the best team. So keep going, keep pushing, you are going to hold many, many times this trophy, you have already two, so!”

Alcaraz also talked up the healthy but fiercely competitive rivalry between the pair, saying: “Every time we play each other, I think our level is really high. We don't see a level like this. I don't see any player playing against each other having the level we're playing when we face each other.

"This rivalry, it's becoming better and better. We're playing in the finals of Grand Slams, finals of Masters and the best tournaments in the world. It's going to get better.

"I'm just really grateful for that because it gives me the opportunity to just give my 100 per cent every practice, every day, just to be better. The level that I have to maintain and I have to raise if I want to beat Jannik is really high."
