Tour de France 2025: the route of the ninth stage

The ninth stage of the 2025 Tour de France, on Sunday, July 13, resembles a transition day, in order to get closer to the mountain stages that will enliven the second week of the Grande Boucle . Starting from Chinon (Indre-et-Loire), a new stage town, the riders will cross part of the north of Vienne, passing notably through Châtellerault and La Roche-Posay, before traveling through Indre to its prefecture, Châteauroux. It should be noted that this department is the one that, since 1903, has been crossed the least by the Tour de France: only eleven times in 112 editions – even if it has regularly appeared on the Tour map since 1992.
No difficulties are listed on today's route, a unique case in this 2025 edition: it is a long, flat stage that could almost seem dull to the riders. Before the Massif Central, the Pyrenees, and then the Alps, this is one of the last opportunities for sprinters to claim a stage victory in this 2025 Tour de France.
In the finale, the peloton will take the Avenue de la Châtre, nicknamed "Avenue Cavendish" in Châteauroux: a straight line conducive to a proper battle between sprinters, where Mark Cavendish – record holder for the number of victories in the Grande Boucle – raised his arms three times in 2008, 2011 and 2021.
