The second bottle of the Mexican boxer Munguia's doping control also tested positive

The second bottle of the Mexican boxer Munguia's doping control also tested positive

In a statement released Tuesday evening, Mexican boxer Jaime Munguia acknowledged that the second bottle of his doping control, following his victory over Bruno Surace on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, also tested positive.

Knocked out in the sixth round by the Frenchman on December 14th in Tijuana, Mexico, Munguia took his revenge on points four and a half months later. But on May 29th, it was revealed that he had tested positive for testosterone metabolites. Claiming his innocence and incomprehension, the 28-year-old boxer demanded the opening of the second bottle. In his presence and that of his promoter Fernando Beltran, the examination took place in the United States on June 10th at the Sports Medicine Research and Testing Lab in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The result, which exactly confirmed the first test, was communicated to those concerned a few days later, before being made public on Tuesday in a press release signed by "Team Munguia":

“We can confirm that Jaime Munguía’s B sample was opened and analyzed, and, consistent with the A sample, it also tested positive. Jaime was present in Utah when the B sample was opened, demonstrating his respect for the process and his total commitment to transparency and cooperation at every stage. At this point, we are still awaiting clarification from the specialists regarding the specific concentrations detected in the samples. Our team will soon submit a list of all the supplements and products used by Jaime to a laboratory accredited by the World Anti-Doping Agency for analysis. These analyses are essential to determine how the substance entered his body and to ensure the integrity of the analysis.”

Since the Riyadh meeting took place under the supervision of the British Boxing Board of Control, Munguia (45 wins, including 35 before the limit, 2 losses) will be summoned before the British federation. He risks a suspension, a fine, and the result being changed, with his victory becoming a no-contest (no result), thus allowing Surace (26 years old, 26 wins, including 5 before the limit, 2 draws, 1 loss) to become undefeated again and climb back up the world rankings.
