Tennis: Novak Djokovic withdraws from the Masters 1000 in Rome one month before Roland-Garros

The Serb, beaten in the first round in Monte Carlo and Madrid, will not participate in the third Masters 1000 on clay before Roland-Garros.
Novak Djokovic's troubled clay-court season continues. The former world No. 1 has withdrawn from the Rome Masters 1000, which will take place from May 7 to 18 on the clay courts of the Foro Italico, organizers announced on Tuesday, April 29. "Novak Djokovic has announced that he will not take part in the 2025 Italian Open," they stated on their social networks without giving further explanation. The Serb, now ranked 5th in the world, has two eliminations since his first matches in Monte Carlo and Madrid .
Although he will have two opportunities to play on clay between Rome and Roland-Garros (ATP 500 in Geneva and Hamburg), the Serbian could be tempted to give it a miss to give himself every chance of winning a 25th Grand Slam (and a 100th ATP title) in his career at Porte d'Auteuil. But the chances of seeing the last Olympic champion, crowned on Parisian clay, arrive at Roland-Garros without winning a single match on clay this season, increase a little more after this announcement.
