Skip the adManchester United announced on Monday that it plans to cut up to 200 more jobs as part of a "transformation plan" launched in 2024 when Ineos chairman Jim Ratcliffe took over as co-owner, to improve the club's financial health, which has been making losses for the past five years. "As part of these measures, the club anticipates that 150 to 200 jobs could be cut, subject to a consultation process with employees. These cuts would be in addition to the 250 made last year," the club said in a statement on Monday.
Around 250 employees were already laid off last year in a first wave of cost-cutting measures after the British billionaire acquired a stake in the Premier League club. ManU also increased ticket prices, despite opposition from fans.
The plan "aims to return the club to profitability after five consecutive years of losses since 2019," the statement continued. United CEO Omar Berrada said the far-reaching measures were being put in place to "transform and renew" the club, which had to pay around €17.5 million to sack manager Erik Ten Hag and his assistants as well as sporting director Dan Ashworth, according to accounts published last week. The "Red Devils" , coached since November by Ruben Amorim, are currently 15th in the Premier League, after a 2-2 draw with Everton at the weekend.
