Loïs Boisson wins her first tournament on the WTA tour

Loïs Boisson continues her rise in world tennis. The Frenchwoman won the Hamburg (Germany) tournament on Sunday, defeating the Hungarian Anna Bondar, ranked 77th in the world, 7-5, 6-3 in the final. This is her first title on the WTA Tour, at this WTA 250 event (the fourth tier after the Grand Slam tournaments, the Masters 1000, and the WTA 500).
The 22-year-old Dijon player, who was once again wearing a large bandage on her left thigh, struggled to get into the game on Sunday. Quickly trailing 4-0 after losing her serve twice, Loïs Boisson gradually restored the situation. Anna Bondar served twice to win the first set, at 5-2 and then at 5-4. But the Frenchwoman reacted at the right time each time, coming back to within five games.
Despite some weaknesses in her serve and some poor choices, the Frenchwoman took control of the match at the best moment (6-5), before concluding the first act 7-5, helped by her opponent's unforced errors.
A forehand that "squirts"At the start of the second set, Loïs Boisson fell back into the same bad habits that had disrupted her start to the match. Quickly trailing 3 games to 1, she recovered again to level the scoreboard and then overtake Anna Bondar (5-3). All that remained was to close out the match. The Frenchwoman did so without flinching, on her first match point. "You play magnificent tennis," said Anna Bondar, in tears after her defeat. "To reach such a level so quickly is impressive."
After a liberating shout on the ball which gave him this first title on the "big" professional circuit, Loïs Boisson gave a very restrained speech, contenting himself with thanking his opponent and the organizers.
After the Roland-Garros tournament that revealed her, then a grass-court season that was limited to an elimination in qualifying at Wimbledon, Loïs Boisson chose to return to clay, her favorite surface, the one where her best assets, including a forehand that "squirts" after rebounding, work wonders.
The Dijon player rediscovered her June performance throughout the week. After a complicated victory (6-4, 6-7 [3-7], 6-4) in almost three hours of play against the German Tamara Korpatsch ( 163rd ), Thursday, Loïs Boisson followed up with convincing victories against the Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova ( 105th , 6-3, 6-3) then the Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska ( 39th , 6-1, 7-6 [7-5]), Friday and Saturday.
The Frenchwoman will now focus on the American tournaments leading up to the US Open, where she will this time be directly into the main draw thanks to her ranking, 63rd before her victory this Sunday in Hamburg. On Monday, Loïs Boisson, who was 361st before Roland-Garros, is expected to enter the world's top 50.
