Thirty years of passion, sweat and respect on the tatami: the Boulazac judo club celebrated its history with emotion and pride.

Many judokas, friends, and families gathered to celebrate a unique birthday on the mat. The day was also an opportunity to present belts to young judokas, recognizing a year rich in learning and progress.

The workforce has doubled

The meeting was at the Agora de Boulazac this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. With over 150 members, the Boulazac judo club celebrated its 30th anniversary with a memorable day. The afternoon brought together the club's children, former members, and neighboring clubs for a special event. Club president Vincent Mathieu highlighted the association's growth, which has doubled its membership since 2020. Classes, offered five days a week, welcome judokas of all ages and levels, from beginners to competitors.

Founded in 1994, the club held its training sessions in the Boulazac multi-purpose hall, located right next to the town hall. The first classes were led by Laurent Cubertafon, assisted by Emmanuelle Delteil. In 1995, the club moved to the Agora gymnasium, where it remained for nearly 15 years. The arrival of Hervé Vicaire, replacing Laurent, marked a significant moment in the club's life. Since 2007, Xavier Mangeot has co-led training sessions. In 2010, the club moved to the Lucien-Dutard sports complex.

Presentation of the belts

This Saturday, for over two hours, Xavier Mangeot led demonstrations and oversaw the awarding of diplomas and medals. A judo demonstration was given by six judokas from the club. Around one hundred children and adults received their rank belts, rewarding their dedication and technical progress over the season. Commemorative 30th anniversary medals were also presented to all judokas, as well as to those participating in the Taïso activity, a form of training without falls or contact.

The event provided an opportunity to warmly thank the volunteers, financial partners, and the municipality. The club also received the silver label awarded by the French Judo Federation, in recognition of its social and sporting commitment. A gala evening concluded this anniversary in the Jean-Jaurès hall. "A club is a sports association, and an association also functions thanks to its volunteers and board members. I would like to thank them," insisted Vincent Mathieu. The mayor of Périgueux added: "30 years of history, with the club's great growth, a healthy club that is progressing well with good values, I wish it a happy anniversary."
