Joel Chenal, Olympic vice-champion, accused of sexual harassment of 12 women, details of the facts

The former silver medalist is accused by many young women.

Le Monde is adding another layer this Wednesday, July 23, following an initial investigation published a few weeks ago. The newspaper reported that five new young women, minors at the time of the events, have come forward with accusations of sexual harassment against Joël Chenal, Olympic giant slalom runner-up in Turin in 2006. This brings the total number of women making accusations against the skier to 12 after the initial investigation in early July.

The alleged events allegedly took place between 2005 and 2021, with the same modus operandi each time, offering a coaching service before turning the discussion towards sexual exchanges. Two women admit to having been solicited and harassed from the age of 11. Another says she was, along with her best friend, who was a minor at the time of the events, "trapped and abused by him in 2015. During a party with him, we had a kind of blackout." "How many times have I received messages from him with an erection, asking me to come see him and promising me pocket money, while he watched porn," explains a woman quoted by Le Monde. While one of the women filed a complaint on July 21, the second says she will do so in the coming days.

For the moment, the former Olympic medalist has not defended himself to Le Monde despite requests and is still a coach for his organization.
