Formula 1: two mandatory stops at the Monaco Grand Prix for a more spectacular race

On the occasion of the 71st edition of the Monaco GP, which will be held on May 25, Formula 1 drivers will be required to make two pit stops. A rule announced this Wednesday by the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
By Le Parisien with AFPThe International Automobile Federation (FIA) wants to spice up the Monaco Grand Prix. This Wednesday, it announced a new mandatory rule from the next edition, the 71st, on May 25: two mandatory pit stops in order to make the race more spectacular. The ten F1 teams will now be required to use at least three separate sets of tires during the race, and at least two different types of rubber out of three (soft, medium or hard) if the race is held in dry weather, the FIA announced on Wednesday, the first day of pre-season testing in Bahrain .
The current regulations require teams to stop once per race, forcing them to use two different types of tyres. The twisty Monaco circuit and the width of the current single-seaters make overtaking virtually impossible on the 3.4km street course. The race often gives rise to suspenseless processions , such as last year when the top ten finished in the same order as they started .
The FIA had indicated that it was considering this solution to spice up an often boring Grand Prix last week on the sidelines of the F1 season presentation evening in London. Drivers questioned on the subject were in favour of this initiative which will only apply to the legendary Monaco event. This is the third most frequently contested race in the history of Formula 1, after Monza (Italy) and Silverstone (Great Britain).
