Coupe de France: Without pity, PSG puts an end to Stade Briochin's adventure in the quarter-finals

There was no miracle. Stade Briochin's Coupe de France epic came to an end against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, February 26, in the quarter-finals. In front of 29,000 spectators at Roazhon Park, the stadium in Rennes, the National 2 club tried to defend as best it could but logically lost to the undefeated leader of Ligue 1 (7-0). Serious from start to finish, PSG applied its usual recipe: tyrannical ball possession (74% possession) and stifling pressure.
For once in the starting line-up, Gonçalo Ramos had a great time. The Portuguese scored a hat-trick, his first in Parisian colours. Three goals as an attacker: on the reception of a cross (36th), on a penalty (49th) and in an armchair on a shift from Désiré Doué (58th). Doué, precisely, was the most visible Parisian on the pitch. He directly participated in the development of five of the seven Parisian goals and finished the match with 1 goal (55th) and two assists. His technical ease made the gulf represented by the three divisions separating the two teams felt.
With a little more luck, without a deflection from a defender and the crossbar, he should have been the one to open the scoring. Regardless, Joao Neves was lurking and had fun putting the ball in the back of the net with a chest control-left-footed shot (16th). Désiré Doué was back on the sixth goal, scored by young Senny Mayulu. Coming into play, Ousmane Dembélé sealed the score at the end of the match (85th) by scoring his 25th goal of the season, with a right-footed shot from a tight angle.
Despite the experience of Christophe Kerbrat, ex-pro and winner of the Coupe de France in 2014 under the colors of Guingamp, the Briochine defense could do nothing against the offensive quality of this PSG which is stringing together a ninth consecutive success in all competitions. Such a series had not been achieved by the capital club since January-February 2020 (9 also under Thomas Tuchel). The dynamic bodes well one week before the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League against Liverpool.
Paris will be the scarecrow of the semi-finals of this Coupe de France, whose posters will be revealed on Thursday. The three other qualifiers for the last four are Reims (L1), the little Thumb Cannes (N2) and Dunkerque (L2). The northern club achieved the feat, two hours before PSG qualified, by overturning Brest (3-2). The Ligue 2 resident, who were trailing 2-0 with 25 minutes to go, scored three goals, including two by the substitute Opa Sangante, and threw a chill in the stands of Francis-Le-Blé. The northern club will play in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France for the first time since 1929.
