Canoeing-Kayaking: A good introduction for the Périgourdins

Canoeing-Kayaking: A good introduction for the Périgourdins

Mattéo Zanni of Marsac-sur-l'Isle and Emma Lacoste of Castelnaud have been competing in the World Downhill Championships in Solkan, Slovenia, since July 1st. On Thursday, they both won medals in the classic team race.

It wasn't his specialty, and yet, Mattéo Zanni, a canoeist from the Marsac-sur-l'Isle club, achieved a fine sixth place in the classic race on Wednesday at the Downhill World Championships in Slovenia. "I'm happy," he said. "I rode a race at my level." Zanni was one of three Frenchmen competing in the race. It's worth noting that his teammate Gaëtan Rousseau took second place.

Silver and bronze

And this medal was a good omen for this Thursday. "We were in the classic team race [Editor's note: three boats from the same country racing together]. Our goal was the podium," Mattéo Zanni hoped before this event. Accompanied by Gaëtan Rousseau (Canoë Kayak Niortais), and Jan Gabin Pischek (AS Gérardmer Canoë Kayak), the Marsacois set off at 2:52 p.m. And the least we can say is that the French had a great race. They finished 2nd behind the Czechs, whom Mattéo Zanni knew would be formidable.

Goals achieved for the Marsacois.

As for Emma Lacoste from the Castelnaud club, she took 13th place in the classic kayak race. This Thursday, she was with Maura Fontaine (Canoë Kayak Apach Colmar) and Eve Vitali-Guilbert (Canoë Kayak Tain Tournon) for the classic team race.

Alongside the Germans, the Spanish, the Swiss, the English and the Czechs, the French women had a very good race and climbed onto the podium, on the 3rd step with the bronze medal around their necks.
