Bernard Brochand, former PSG leader, MP and mayor of Cannes has died

Former PSG manager, also former mayor of Cannes and deputy for the Alpes-Maritimes, Bernard Brochand died on Tuesday at the age of 86, the Parisian club announced on X.

In 1971, he joined the PSG board of directors alongside Daniel Hechter, the club's first president, and other historic leaders such as Alain Cayzac and Charles Talar. "A communications specialist, he became president of the Association des Rouge et Bleu in 1991, after negotiating the arrival of the Canal + group" as owner of PSG, the club recalls in a press release on its website.

Mayor of Cannes for thirteen years

Bernard Brochand headed the association until 2001. He was also mayor of Cannes from 2001 to 2014 and member of parliament (under the label of the Gaullist parties RPR, UMP then LR) for the 8th constituency of the Alpes-Maritimes from 2001 to 2022.

First delegated president of PSG under the Canal + era , Michel Denisot hailed, in a message on X, "a fervent servant in love with PSG before and with Canal +" .

In a press release, David Lisnard , his successor (LR) as mayor of Cannes, expressed his "deep sorrow" , saluting "a very great French international business leader" and "an emblematic deputy-mayor of Cannes" .

Thanks to his expertise as a communicator, he was entrusted in 1998 with responsibility for communication for the Football World Cup, alongside his duties as president of the PSG Association.
