Another double, laser pass and goal record: the Lionel Messi show continues in MLS

Another double, laser pass and goal record: the Lionel Messi show continues in MLS

With his sixth brace in seven games, Lionel Messi returned to his two-goal-per-game rhythm on Saturday in Inter Miami's 5-1 MLS victory over the New York Red Bulls.

After a series of five doubles in as many matches in a row, Messi remained silent and Miami lost on Wednesday in Cincinnati (3-0).

But the Argentinian was particularly inspired on Saturday, first providing a magnificent assist for his former Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba to equalize (1-1).

Then "La Pulga" combined perfectly with the same Alba who gifted the goal to Telasco Segovia (2-1), before scoring a brace in the second half.

This double brings his total of goals scored in his career to 764, excluding penalties, one more than his great rival Cristiano Ronaldo while having played 167 fewer matches.

The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner and his Miami team are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, seven points behind leaders Cincinnati but with three games in hand.
