The Yankees celebrate: They secure their 8th postseason berth in nine years



Panamanian José Caballero's two-out RBI single in the ninth inning scored Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees rallied to beat the Chicago White Sox 3-2.
With this victory, the Bombers clinched their eighth playoff appearance in nine seasons.
New York (89-68) moved within one game of AL East leader Toronto (90-67) and reached the playoffs for the sixtieth time in team history.
“Our ultimate goal is to win our division,” Judge said. “We still have the potential. So we’re excited to get in, but we have bigger things ahead of us.”
New York secured its postseason berth for the 26th time in 31 seasons. They have the most October appearances since the playoffs expanded in 1995. The Yankees, Houston Astros, and Los Angeles Dodgers are the only teams with eight playoff appearances in the last nine seasons.
In the ninth inning against Chicago, Anthony Volpe and Austin Wells led off with singles off Brandon Eisert (3-7). After Trent Grisham grounded into a double play, Judge drew his second intentional walk of the game.
Cody Bellinger followed with another walk and Volpe scored on Eisert's wild pitch.
Caballero capped a nine-pitch at-bat against Steven Wilson with a single that landed in front of center fielder Brooks Baldwin, as Judge scored the winning run.
JOSH NAYLOR hit a two-out, bases-clearing double in the eighth inning to send the Seattle Mariners into the playoffs with a 4-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night. The Mariners (88-69) won for the 15th time in 16 games to secure the team's second postseason appearance since 2001.
In Toronto, Venezuelan Carlos Narváez hit a two-run double in the sixth inning, Nathaniel Lowe hit two RBI singles, and the Boston Red Sox beat the ALCS-leading Toronto Blue Jays 4-1.
The Blue Jays, who are in a slump with the bat, managed just three hits and lost for the fifth time in six games.
Francisco Álvarez hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning to break the tie, Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo also homered, and the New York Mets rallied to beat the Chicago Cubs 9-7.
Venezuelan Alvarez gave New York a 9-7 lead with two outs when he homered off Caleb Thielbar (3-4) after Brett Baty led off the inning with a single, and the Mets pulled away from a 6-1 deficit to win.
It was the Mets' biggest comeback of the season. They moved one game ahead of Cincinnati in the race for the third wild card after the Reds' 4-2 loss to Pittsburgh.
The Cubs, the wild-card leaders, lost their fifth straight game after dropping all four games in Cincinnati.
In other results , the Texas Rangers fell out of the playoff race with their eighth straight loss, 4-1 to the Minnesota Twins; and the Miami Marlins kept their playoff hopes alive with a 6-5 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Atlanta Braves also defeated the Washington Nationals 3-2 to earn their tenth straight victory.— AP
