The secretary of the Yécora, Sonora, city council was shot and killed.

MEXICO CITY (apro) – The city secretary of Yécora, a municipality located in the mountainous region of Sonora, was shot and killed last Sunday night. The attack occurred outside the victim's home around 10:00 p.m.
"The officer was killed on the night of June 22nd on the streets of Miguel Lerdo de Tejada and Navojoa, in the aforementioned municipality. Forensic Services personnel processed the area to obtain ballistic, biological, and technological evidence to be incorporated into the investigation file," the Sonora Attorney General's Office reported in a statement.
The murder of Jafeth Holguín Valenzuela, who is believed to have been shot multiple times, sparked a major police mobilization in the mountainous municipality, but more than 24 hours later, no arrests have been made and there is no clear line of investigation.
The local population, which in 2020 numbered less than 5,000 people, was shaken by the incident, so much so that hours after the tragedy, messages of solidarity began circulating. One of them came from State Technical Secondary School No. 10.
"The teaching and administrative staff of the high school join in the grief felt by the Holguín Córdova family over the sad passing of Mr. Jafeth Holguín Valenzuela," the father of a student at the school.
According to official data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, this is the first murder of the year in the municipality, as there are no records of any investigations initiated for intentional homicide between January and May of this year.
Last year, the figures, as of May, included two investigation files, while two more were added in June. The year ended with a total of eight cases.
High-impact crimes that have occurred in this area over the past year have been attributed, at various times, to "La Línea," which serves as the armed wing of the Juárez Cartel, which operates primarily in Chihuahua.
In October, the Attorney General's representative confirmed the presence of this group in the municipality of Yécora.
