The quarry saves Madrid

The quarry saves Madrid

Real Madrid defeated Mallorca 2-1 with a goal in stoppage time, preventing Barcelona from securing the title, on matchday 36 of the Spanish league.

Youth player Jacobo Ramón made the difference in the 95th minute, after Kylian Mbappé equalized in the 68th. Martin Valjent opened the scoring for the visiting team in the 11th minute.

The Merengues needed a win to force Barça, who are four points ahead, to beat Espanyol today to win the title. The Blaugranas can secure their 28th title with a victory at their city rivals' home.

Mbappé, who scored a hat trick in Sunday's Clásico, reached 28 goals this season, three more than Robert Lewandowski.

"When we wear this badge, we must always fight until the end," said goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. "Although there's still a long way to go, we'll keep fighting until it becomes mathematically impossible."

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti received a muted reaction from the Santiago Bernabéu stadium crowd after his arrival to the Brazilian national team was announced.

Some fans criticized the deal, but during the announcement of his name, there was applause and traditional chants from the Real Madrid stadium.

"Every time I sit on the bench at the Bernabéu is something special. So, it was a special night, like all the others," Ancelotti said.

The 65-year-old Italian coach will conclude his second spell with the club, during which he won the Champions League, the Spanish league, and other titles.

In total, he has won three Champions Leagues, three Club World Cups, two domestic league titles, two Copa del Rey titles, three UEFA Super Cups, and two Spanish Super Cups with Real Madrid.

Mallorca remains in the fight to qualify for the next Conference League.

They fight to save themselves

In the fight for survival, Leganés fell 3-0 to Villarreal and remains in 18th place in the standings, four points behind Alavés. The Yellow Submarine reached 64 points, six points behind Betis, in their fight for the last spot in the next Champions League.

In another match, Alavés defeated Valencia 1-0 and scored a vital blow in their fight to avoid relegation.
