The awards ceremony, the last chapter of the Zurich Seville Marathon 2025

The final chapter of the 2025 Zurich Seville Marathon was written this Tuesday at Torre Sevilla with the awards ceremony by category. This event, which was attended by the Sports Delegate of the Seville City Council, Silvia Pozo , puts the finishing touch to the emblematic Seville race every year, a test of increasing magnitude in which more than 14,000 runners participated in the streets of Seville last Sunday, with a record number of foreign athletes (7,250) and women (2,809).
The Torre Sevilla gala recognised, among many other athletes, the best Sevillians in the male and female categories. In the women's category, María Romero Ledo (2:47:47) from the Army won, and was also the best Andalusian, the fourth best Spanish and the winner of the Spanish Military Championship in women. Alejandra Flores Baena (2:51:51) and Inmaculada Díaz Muñoz (2:52:15) completed the podium. Identical, by the way, to that of the first three Andalusian athletes.
As for the fastest Sevillians, prizes went to Manuel Jesús Burgos Jiménez (2:22:05), Pedro José Garrido Bejarano (2:23:03), from the UME, who was also second in the Spanish Military Championship; and José Manuel Orozco Quiñones (2:26:00). The Cadiz-born trail specialist Miguel Benítez Bermejo finished as the fastest Andalusian (and fourth Spaniard) in the first marathon of his life with a time of 2:14:49, followed by Manuel Jesús Burgos (2:22:05) and Diego Tirado Palacios , from the Army, also winner of the Spanish Military Championship (2:22:17).
The first runners in twelve categories have received their trophies, by age from under 20 to Master 80, in addition to the athletes with disabilities, from Andalusia, Seville and the first three clubs. Among the athletes with disabilities, the first positions went to Antonio Martínez Martín and Vanesa del Río Martín , while among the veterans it is worth highlighting the triumph in the +80 category of Eduardo Silva, one of the five historic finishers of the Seville Marathon, member of the select quintet that has run the 40 editions, completed by Julio Molina, Luis Caballero, Antonio Gelo and Antonio González. By clubs, the trophies have gone to CD Atletismo Camas, Runners Montemar and ASICS Front Runners .

The overall winners of the Zurich Seville Marathon , sponsored by ABC de Sevilla, were the Ethiopians Selemon Barega (2:05:15) and Anchilanu Dessie (2:22:17), who were unable to beat the record times of the race without this taking away any merit from their victories. Barega , Olympic champion, was the headliner of this edition and arrived with the idea of at least making his debut in the 42 kilometres with a win. A feat that he finally achieved with absolute dominance of the race from beyond the half marathon. The women's race was more evenly matched, with a group of four Africans fighting for victory and the Spaniard Kaoutar Boulaid among the options for victory. Finally, Dessie, also making her debut in the distance, was much stronger than her competitors in the last seven kilometres and crossed the finish line before anyone else.
