Tecolotes punish Saraperos in Game 1; honor 'Tony' Romero at the Madero Stadium

In the start of a new series at the Francisco I. Madero Stadium , the Saraperos de Saltillo fell by a score of 14-2 to the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos in Game 1. The visiting team showed offensive solidity and took advantage of every opportunity at bat, while the locals continue with an irregular campaign in the Northern Zone of the Mexican Baseball League .

With a record of 9-13, the Saraperos were unable to hold on to the initial lead they had gained thanks to a solo home run by Carlos Martínez in the bottom of the third inning, which opened the scoring in favor of the Nave Verde .

The Tecolotes , who were recently crowned champions of the 2025 Governor's Cup —a tournament in which they eliminated Saltillo in the semifinals—responded in the fourth inning. A double by Danry Vásquez allowed Harold Ramírez to score, and later, a home run by Johan Camargo made it 3-1 in favor of the visitors.

The Tecolotes ' offense didn't slow down. In the fifth, Yadiel Hernández 's three-run homer extended the lead to 6-1. In the following inning, Ryan Aguilar homered with Camargo on base. Home starter Zach Mort was relieved after this play by Tomás Solís.

The visiting team took advantage of a powerful offensive rally in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the victory.

The relief pitch couldn't stem the damage. Cade Gotta hit another three-run homer, followed by another homer from Hernández and another from Camargo to cap off an eight-run rally in the top of the sixth (1-14). In the bottom of the same inning, Brandon Villarreal drove in another run for Saltillo with a single, leaving the final score at 14-2.

Tecolotes starter Daniel Megden managed to keep the Sarape offense under control during the first innings. With this victory, the visitors improve their record to 12-9 and strengthen their position at the top of the Norteño standings.

FAREWELL, DEAR TONY

Beyond the result, the night had an emotional moment. At the end of the fifth inning, Saraperos paid tribute to Jesús Antonio “Tony” Romero Valenzuela , the team's longtime batboy , who recently passed away during a tour in Aguascalientes . Tony , a native of Huatabampo, Sonora, had been with the club since 1999 and had played more than 2,500 games with the squad.

With images and videos on the stadium screens, players, coaching staff, and fans bid farewell to one of Saltillo's most beloved baseball figures.

Images of Jesús Antonio Romero Valenzuela were projected on the Madero screen as a farewell to the beloved bat boy.

The second game of the series will be played this Wednesday at 7:30 pm at the Madero .
