Deportivo opens with a landslide

Deportivo opens with a landslide

"We're going for more," said coach Diego Morales Uscanga after Deportiva Venados' debut in the Third Division season.

The Horned team's debut in the long schedule was a 4-0 thrashing of the Coatzacoalcos Dolphins, a match that opened the Copa Promesas, a match between clubs from the Professional Third Division League and U-17 affiliates of Liga MX teams.

Promesas' opening match saw the deer dominate the cetaceans from start to finish on Tuesday afternoon at the "Alonso Diego Molina" Stadium in Tamanché. If they want more, as coach Morales Uscanga says, they'll need to score consistently and push hard at all times.

A total of 64 teams are participating in the competition, with 46 from the Third Division, divided into 16 groups. The Southeast Zone is represented by Venados and Boston Cancún, both affiliates of Premier League and Expansion League teams, respectively.

There's a lot of anticipation for the tournament, which will showcase many talented players in action, as seen on the Tamanché pitch. The general expectation is that scouts will be alert and players will be willing to sacrifice.

The match could have ended with a score other than 4-0 for both sides. The Venados let down their guard when they were 3-0 up, and the Dolphins controlled the game, creating forward actions. Deportiva then regained control to press and score their fourth goal. The home side could have at least added two or three more, but they failed to convert.

One key player for Deportiva was Jonathan Ciprián, who plays in both the Third Division and the Premier League. He scored two goals and created a significant amount of danger. The Veracruz native is going through an important period, creating opportunities and scoring goals.

He opened the scoring in the 21st minute and scored the third in the 51st, the latter bringing the ball down with his leg and shooting past the goalkeeper.

Aries Gutiérrez made it 2-0 in the 31st minute. Daniel Martínez completed the scoring in the 82nd minute, making his debut in the yellow jersey.

But when Ciprián left the field, the decline in the home team's attack was noticeable, and that was when Delfines had the opportunity to take the lead.

Deportiva's next match in the Cup will be on September 23 against the Owls of the Pablo Guardado University of Tuxtla Gutiérrez.— Gaspar Silveira
