Conflict erupts at McLaren over the incomprehensible crash in Canada: Norris had to apologize to Piastri

The Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix couldn't have ended worse for Lando Norris , who crashed while battling for fourth place with his teammate Oscar Piastri . The English driver thus marked the beginning of a civil war at McLaren , but was forced to apologize immediately.

It wasn't the best weekend for the British team, with poor grid positions to be the fastest team of the year (Piastri third and Norris seventh). Things didn't improve in the opening laps, with Max Verstappen ahead and Mercedes in front.

In the closing laps, the McLarens caught up with Kimi Antonelli, who was third, but the time lost to the backmarkers gave the Italian some breathing room. Lando took advantage of the situation to charge at his teammate, and after a kilometer-long parallel, he tried to go for the inside at the first corner, but miscalculated , clipped Piastri's diffuser, and crashed into the wall right at the finish line. "It's my fault," he said over the radio before abandoning his battered MCL39.

" I thought there was some space , enough to go for it, but it was very risky, I shouldn't have taken the risk with my teammate, but luckily I was the only one who paid the price ," Norris admitted in the mixed zone.

"Of course it's not easy. I feel bad, bad for myself and even worse for my team. I go out there to work for them, and I've let them down . I've put Oscar's career at risk, which is the worst thing I can do. I'll have to review it, learn from it, and do better next time," he reflected.

"There are still many races left, but we never come into a weekend to come away with zero points. We've lost points for me, but also for the team, and I've risked a double retirement for the team , something I have to analyze going forward," he concluded.
