Chivas faces Sergio Ramos; here's how the team has fared against international stars in Liga MX

Chivas will host Monterrey this Saturday at Estadio Akron, aiming to secure their direct qualification for the Liguilla (playoffs). The match will not only be crucial on the field, but will also mark the first encounter between Chivas and Sergio Ramos, who has generated considerable excitement among the Guadalajara fans thanks to his brilliant career with Real Madrid.

Given this scenario, at EL INFORMADOR we recall how Guadalajara has fared when facing the "blockbuster" signings of Liga MX for the first time in recent years.

Keylor Navas

The Costa Rican goalkeeper arrived in Liga MX for the 2025 Apertura season, and his first match against Guadalajara was far from his best. A shot from Armando González slipped through his hands, and in the final minute, Daniel Aguirre scored the 2-1 goal that sealed the victory for Chivas.

James Rodriguez

The Colombian midfielder joined Guadalajara for the Clausura 2025. In his first match against Chivas, he participated in his team's 2-1 victory, assisting the first goal of the game, thus registering his second assist in just three Liga MX games.

Dani Alves

The Brazilian idol arrived in Liga MX to bolster Pumas, generating great excitement among the fans. His debut against Chivas was highly anticipated, but the night didn't go well for the former Barcelona player. In his second match in Mexican soccer, Guadalajara defeated the Universitarios 3-1, leaving Alves with a bitter start to the tournament.

André-Pierre Gignac

In his second Liga MX tournament, the French striker visited Guadalajara for the first time to face Chivas in a match that drew a large crowd to Estadio Akron. Although Gignac failed to score and his performance was unremarkable, he played 86 minutes in Tigres' 1-0 victory over Chivas.

Ronaldinho

The Brazilian star experienced a very different debut in Liga MX. His first match with Querétaro was precisely against Chivas, at Estadio Akron. The Chivas fans enthusiastically welcomed "Dinho," who responded with a memorable performance: he scored a goal and provided an assist in Gallos Blancos' 4-1 rout of Guadalajara.

Claudio López

The Argentine striker arrived at América for the 2004 Apertura Tournament from Italy's Serie A, hailed as one of the biggest names in international football. In his first match against Chivas, "Piojo" López failed to score and was substituted after 75 minutes. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Ivan Zamorano

Chilean Iván Zamorano's first Clásico Nacional was played at Estadio Jalisco during the 2001 Summer Tournament. "Bam-Bam" opened the scoring with a penalty kick, which turned out to be América's only goal of the match. Chivas eventually equalized, and the game ended 1-1.
