Big week in the Third Division

Big week in the Third Division

The Professional Third Division League will kick off its 2025-26 schedule this weekend, but before then, several of its teams will have to face high-profile matches in a competition with high expectations.

Among them are two representatives from the Southeast Zone, Deportiva Venados, one of the champions of the reserve division, and Boston Cancún FC, who will take to the field this Wednesday to pursue important goals in the second round of the Copa Promesas.

The tournament between third-division clubs and reserve teams from the U-17 division of Liga MX will conclude today, marking the conclusion of a marathon week of 32 national cup matches.

The Venado team, a benchmark in the Third Division thanks to its senior titles leading to promotion in 2021 and its reserve team titles in 2025, traveled to Tuxtla Gutiérrez yesterday, full of motivation, to face the Lechuzas of the Pablo Guardado Chávez University. The match will be played at 3 p.m. at the Flor de Sospó Stadium.

The Venados will try to continue their momentum in the Copa Promesas, having thrashed the Delfines de Coatzacoalcos 4-0 in the opening match. The Lechuzas, meanwhile, won 2-0 away to Boston Cancún.

And after this whirlwind of matches, the Professional Third Division League will raise the curtain on its long regular season.

The Southeast Zone, or Group 1, was left with 12 teams, now with only two representatives from Yucatán: Deportiva Venados, which will play at the “Alonso Diego Molina” Stadium in Tamanché, and the Progreso Itzaes FC project, which will have its headquarters at the “20 de Noviembre” Stadium in Progreso.

To kick things off, the two clubs will play as visitors. The Deer will open the schedule at the home of the Búhos del Deportivo CTM, at the Sports Complex in the Pescadores neighborhood of Puerto Morelos, on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Progreso Itzaes will go hunting in Chetumal to face the former Mons Calpe.

They will play at home on matchday two.— Gaspar Silveira
