COLIMA, Col. (apro).- An aircraft from El Salvador carrying a shipment of 427 kilograms of cocaine illegally entered Mexican airspace and landed on a clandestine runway in the coastal municipality of Tecomán, Colima.

After landing, its three crew members were detained by federal security forces, who also seized 11 packages containing the drug, with a market value of 95.8 million pesos, according to information released by the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC).

The operation involved members of the Ministry of National Defense (Defense) and the National Guard (GN), supported by the Ministry of the Navy (Semar), the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Attorney General's Office (FGR), and the National Center for Surveillance and Protection of Airspace (Cenavi).

The federal agency stated that, as part of its surveillance and protection efforts in Mexican airspace, Cenavi personnel detected the trace of an aircraft 200 kilometers south of San Salvador, El Salvador, heading toward Mexico. The aircraft did not comply with current aviation regulations upon entering Mexican airspace, prompting an alert.

He added that immediately, six planes and a helicopter were ordered to take off from two aerial platforms to intercept the clandestine vessel, and security personnel were deployed in the state of Colima to areas likely to land.

According to the SSPC, the detainees were informed of their legal rights and, along with the seized drugs, were placed at the disposal of the corresponding Public Ministry agent, who will determine their legal status.
