Ahead of his planned signing with Turkish record champions Galatasaray, German national player Leroy Sané was greeted by hundreds of club fans in Istanbul. Shortly after arriving at the airport, he spoke for the first time about the upcoming transfer : The experience of playing away games was one of the reasons for coming to Istanbul. "The atmosphere was amazing. It was very, very loud," said the 29-year-old attacker, whose contract with FC Bayern Munich expires on June 30.

Sané wore a Galatasaray scarf around his neck and was hailed and cheered. "It's already loud here, so I can hardly wait to play my first game at home in front of the fans," he said.

Galatasaray's YouTube channel broadcast the arrival of the player and his partner live well after midnight. Sané answered the first questions from Turkish journalists in German with the help of a translator while still on the steps of the airport building.

When asked whether other Turkish clubs had tried to sign him and why he chose Galatasaray, he replied: "There were a few clubs in the mix, but the overall package, the atmosphere, how much the club wanted me, the fans wanted me, ultimately the overall package convinced me to say: Okay, I'm coming here to Galatasaray. I want to achieve something with the club."

The club announced late last night on the X portal that "negotiations have begun with Sané regarding his transfer to our club." According to media reports, he will complete his medical and then sign a contract with Galatasaray, which won the Turkish league title last season. The transfer is free, but in such cases, large lump sums are often paid to players.

Sané moved from Manchester City to Munich in the summer of 2020 for a transfer fee of almost 50 million euros. The 70-time international is considered one of Bayern's top earners and, after tough negotiations, reportedly refused to accept a significant salary cut from the Munich club.
