Return to youth club: Wintzheimer strengthens Schweinfurt

Return to youth club: Wintzheimer strengthens Schweinfurt

Manuel Wintzheimer is leaving 1. FC Nuremberg for good. After three loan spells in the past three years, the 26-year-old is moving to third-division promoted side 1. FC Schweinfurt, where he previously played in the youth team.

Manuel Wintzheimer moved from Hamburger SV to Nuremberg in 2022. However, he was unable to truly establish himself at the club. In his three years at the club, he made only 13 competitive appearances. Instead, he was loaned to Eintracht Braunschweig after just six months, before spending the past two seasons – again on loan – with Arminia Bielefeld and Rot-Weiss Essen.

Wintzheimer: "Feels right to come back now"

Now Wintzheimer's chapter at the club is finally over - he's returning to 1. FC Schweinfurt. He played for the newly promoted third-division side as a youth player before making the leap to professional football via stints at Greuther Fürth and FC Bayern.

"With Manuel, we're not only getting a flexible, goal-scoring attacker, but also another player from the region," said Schweinfurt managing director Markus Wolf, delighted with the new signing. "He knows the club, the city, and our mentality, making him a perfect fit for our plans."

Wintzheimer himself, once winner of the Fritz Walter Bronze Medal, is equally enthusiastic about his return: "It feels right to come back now and play in my hometown in the future. I'm looking forward to the challenge and to playing with the team at the Sachs Stadium."

The 26-year-old, who has played 112 second and 46 third division games, is the tenth new signing of the current summer transfer window for the newly promoted club.
