News: PSG vs. Arsenal, Carlo Ancelotti, Wolverhampton

News: PSG vs. Arsenal, Carlo Ancelotti, Wolverhampton

Paris Saint-Germain beat Arsenal 1-0, while the coaching carousel gets underway in Germany. This and more in today's news.

It all went pretty quickly after all: Just four minutes had been played in yesterday's 1-0 win against Arsenal when Paris Saint-Germain made it clear for the first time that they really seemed to be serious about winning the Champions League this year. Ousmane Dembélé snatched the ball in the center, played it sharply down the wing - and neatly slotted the resulting back pass into the right corner. It was a typical scene for the "new" PSG under Luis Enrique. A team that is slowly but surely developing into a team that is making it harder and harder to find really stupid. In any case, the "Gunners" had relatively little to counter the French after the goal. They did have chances to equalize, but were repeatedly thwarted by the strong Gianluigi Donnarumma. And so, from Arsenal's point of view, very little remains of their first Champions League semi-final in 16 years. Apart from perhaps the most embarrassing choreography in football history , which the club had organized beforehand. Sure, making up a 1-0 deficit in Paris is possible. But Mikel Arteta will have to come up with something if he wants to keep the title dream alive.

In the 2009/10 season, FC Barcelona faced Inter Milan in the semifinals, pitting Pep Guardiola against José Mourinho. The Portuguese came out on top, later winning the title with Inter against Bayern. Tonight, 15 years later, there's a rematch.

Carlo Ancelotti hasn't just squandered the Champions League and the Copa del Rey with Real Madrid, the league title also seems to be over. His era with the Royals will end after the season – triggering a chain reaction: While Ancelotti is apparently signing on with the crisis-ridden Brazilian federation, an interim coach is set to take over at Real for the Club World Cup. Until Ancelotti's designated successor, Xabi Alonso, becomes available. Leverkusen will have to let their championship-winning coach go – and start their own coaching search. And since they're unlikely to close the circle by completely unexpectedly unveiling former Brazilian national coach Dorival Júnior, the coaching carousel will start moving at this point at the latest. Marco Rose? Sandro Wagner? Fabian Hürzeler? The options are numerous, and: "We won't wait until the end of the season," as Bayer boss Fernando Carro announced. So, get those funfair coins ready: We're going for another round!

The Wolverhampton Wanderers women's team plays in the English third tier and finished the season in second place at the weekend. They narrowly missed out on promotion by two points. But they wouldn't have been promoted either way. As the players learned after the final game of the season, the club hadn't submitted the necessary application for second-tier membership, which was due in the winter. "We are devastated," wrote player Beth Merrick on X. "It speaks volumes about the club's ambitions for the women's team. Our players, staff, and fans deserve better." A pretty lousy performance, then. Especially for a club that hosted a Premier League event for gender equality and women's career opportunities on the same weekend.

Only the RE7 train between Rheine and Krefeld has more stops: Which player are we looking for here? Send your answers to [email protected] . Yesterday we were looking for someone who has only had one stop since 2011: Diego Simeone.
