If you'd wanted to order the game in Belfast at the sausage counter, you'd have had to order "something from the rough one." It was a rough affair, with lots of fiddling around and even more unplanned action. It was a game played out in the traditional style. In the end, Nick Woltemade's goal after 38 minutes was enough, scored with a shoulder – "somehow fitting," the goalscorer said afterwards. Perhaps the best moment, however, occurred half an hour later: David Raum's opponent had roughly cleared him, leaving the left-back sprawling for a moment, drawing the wrath of the fans. Raum jumped up, turned his head towards the opposing fans, and grinned broadly. As if to say: Give it to me harder! Because only in this almost masochistic way was it possible to beat the Northern Irish. Now the German team is back at the top of Group A. Slovakia awaits in November, lurking in second place on the same number of points. Then it's all about the sausage again.
