Austin Reaves led the Los Angeles Lakers to a personal NBA record against Dennis Schröder's Sacramento Kings. In the absence of injured Lakers stars LeBron James and Luka Doncic, Reaves scored a career-high 51 points in the 127-120 victory. He also added eleven rebounds and nine assists.
World and European champion Schröder couldn't prevent the loss against his former team, recording 18 points, 12 assists, and two rebounds. James is out for the Lakers due to sciatica, and Doncic injured his hand on Friday and will be out for about a week.
According to US media, Reaves is now one of only four professionals to have at least 50 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 assists in a single game in the past 40 years. The other three are Doncic, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook, who now plays for the Kings and had 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. The Lakers now have two wins in three games, while the Kings suffered their second loss in three games.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks recorded their first win of the season in their second game, defeating the Toronto Raptors 139-129. Cooper Flag, the first overall pick in the draft, scored a strong 22 points. German center Ariel Hukporti also suffered a defeat: The 23-year-old New York Knicks lost 107-115 to the Miami Heat. Hukporti had two rebounds and one assist. Knicks star Jalen Brunson led the game with 37 points.
