Union Berlin's season has been mixed so far: two defeats, one win, and one draw from the last four matchdays. Following the 2-0 defeat at Leverkusen, the Irons entered the international break slightly weakened and currently sit in 13th place. However, a 3-0 friendly win against regional league side Luckenwalde provided some renewed confidence.
Gladbach failed to achieve the desired breakthrough in interim coach Eugen Polanski's third game in charge. Although they kept a clean sheet against Freiburg, the Foals were unable to score a single goal. Gladbach remains in a direct relegation spot and hopes to finally secure their first Bundesliga win of the season at Union Berlin.
